Grade 1 gazette

The Picnic on the Prairie was a huge success! We enjoyed seeing everyone and getting to celebrate the kids’ hard work at the art show!

This week in math the students have been focusing on finding 10 more of any number (Ex: 42+10=52).  It is ok for students to have to count in their heads or use the hundreds chart, but soon they should be able to do this mentally.  They have learned a game called leap frog to help them practice. In this game they “leap” once, twice, or three times to add 10, 20 or 30 to any number.  Next week we will be reviewing subtraction and working hard at getting all the subtraction facts down fluently.  Continue to work on these at home!

End of the Year
It is hard to believe that the year is winding down to a close!  There will be no homework coming home these next two weeks. Check at home to make sure all library books and reading group books have been returned.  If you have any items from the literacy bags at home, please send those in as well.  We have finished the final district reading and writing assessments! Next week the kids will take the final math facts assessment and no excuse word test.  We are so proud of all the effort and progress the students have made!!

  • There is still time to turn in summer school applications.
  • Last day of school is May 24th with 1:15 dismissal.
